eJournal of Public Affairs Call for Submissions: Exemplary Scholarship from the 2018 CLDE Meeting: Innovative Civic Engagement Pedagogy

This special issue of the eJournal emerges from the scholarship presented at the Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Meeting held in Anaheim California from June 6-9, 2018. The meeting concerns the work of higher education in advancing civic learning and democratic engagement on our campuses and in our communities. For this special issue, we are particularly interested in articles related to innovative civic engagement teaching pedagogy however any exemplary programing would also be considered.
Innovative civic engagement pedagogy includes service-learning courses, community-based research, American Democracy Project programs that have been integrated into course work, internships, and other experiential learning opportunities. We are interested in ways that civic engagement is being fostered on a variety of campuses, considerations or issues of such work, and assessment of civic outcomes.
Submission topics can include, but not limited to, the following topics related to civic engagement pedagogy:
- Best practices such as grading policies, academic rigor, curriculum procedures, and student or community support systems;
- Projects or examples of specific pedagogies including service-learning, community-based research, American Democracy Project programs that have been integrated into course work, internships, and other experiential learning opportunities;
- Projects or examples from a variety of the academic disciplines including, but not limited to, social sciences, business, engineering, hospitality, education and STEM;
- Ethical issues such as voluntary or non voluntary student and community participation, causing no harm to individuals, student skills to work in the community, supervising service, confidentially, and respect;
- Assessment of outcomes including student preferences, learning, measures of civic engagement, as well as community outcomes;
- Technology used to promote civic engagement including internet based sites or tools, social media, and learning management systems;
- Special considerations based on institutions including K-12 schools, community colleges, or 4-year-colleges and universities;
- Supporting, building and maintaining campus-community partnerships.
The eJournal of Public Affairs is a peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary, open-access electronic journal published by Missouri State University in partnership with the American Democracy Project. As a multidisciplinary journal, we welcome submissions for this issue from the fields of anthropology, communication, economics, history, human geography, political science, sociology, and many others.
How to Submit: Papers given at the conference or manuscripts that have been developed later based on program presentations may be submitted for consideration. Prior to the conference, all registered presenters will receive information regarding manuscript guidelines and the deadline for submissions. We would also like to include reports, descriptive essays, videos, interviews, photo essays, multimedia, etc., that showcase innovative or excellent projects.
